In this 72 page gem of wisdom, every writer will find a treasure of inspiration, knowledge, and a friend with the beloved muse. Weiland starts off with tips to get that muse on your side. She sets you up for what to do but equally important what not to do.
Chapter One is devoted to How to Be Inspired Every Day. She wants you to open yourself up to inspiration to lead an inspired life which leads to chapter Two How to Optimize Your Imagination. You have the right to daydream, without it you can’t tap into your creative subconscious.
Chapter Two lists the ways to access this important part of yourself. She asks you to ask yourself why you are writing, what about it excites you and she dispels the myths of only working in a zone.
In Chapter Three she continues with How to Conquer Fear, Anxiety, and Depression. She says all writers should be scared of the process “But if you ain’t writin’ scared, you ain’t pushin’ the boundaries.” Because of this challenge it will help you grow in your craft and in your story telling ability, not to mention all other areas of your life.
In Chapter Four she addresses How to Avoid Common Creativity Killers. Weiland admits to being a perfectionist and a tad obsessive and compulsive. Her admission is to help others with similar tendencies as she outlines ways to overcome these roadblocks and barriers.
In Chapter Five she tackles How to Overcome a Fear of Failure. She relates from her own experience from writing several novels that they rarely are the same on the page when compared to what she envisioned in her mind. She doesn’t let that limit her, she uses it to her advantage instead. Then she lists reasons how to tell if your book is a success and to get you over the failure belief.
In Chapter Six she dives right in How to Fight Writer’s Block.
While she personally doesn’t believe in Writer’s block, she lists ways to get out of the doldrums that keep authors uninspired. She advises from her personal experiences to get words on the page and that story off and running.
Chapter Seven shows How to Create Good Writing Habits. By organizing your writing life, and embracing good work habits which she details as to make you a better writer.
Finally Chapter Eight Ends it with How to Embrace Yourself as a Writer. Are you called to be a writer? Do you enjoy it? Weiland advises you to write with joy as a invitation for your muse to settle beside you.
