Don’t Die with Your Music Still in You
My Experience Growing Up with Spiritual Parents\
By Serena J. Dyer
With the introduction of Serena J. Dyer, daughter of world renowned author/speaker Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, this debut book is full of the wisdom anecdotes expected from Dr. Wayne Dyer. Yet it adds in a welcome twist in the fact it is through Serena’s eyes and point of view.
She chronicles parts of her childhood as she learned important lessons from both of her parents. Many of these lessons crossed over into her father’s teachings, lectures and books.
Serena doesn’t hold any punches as each story tells it like it really was-dirt and all. Then she expands on how the lesson affected her life. Vicariously through her stories, the reader gains so much insight and wisdom as if they grew up along side her.
Serena references her father’s book 10 Secrets for success and Inner Peace. In that book he outlined the ten secrets he wanted his children to learn and to live by. Serena tells her perspective of these lessons as they were taught to her and her siblings. The first chapter, Don’t Die with Your Music Still in You explains the title of the book. Continuing on the chapter titles are: Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing; You can’t give away what you don’t have; Embrace silence; Give up your personal history; You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it; there are no justified resentment; Treat yourself as if you already are what you’d like to be; Treasure your divinity; Wisdom is avoiding all thought that weaken you.
It was wonderful to read her stories and her feelings behind each one. An added bonus comes at the end of each chapter where Wayne Dyer comments about the lesson and expands with added bits of wisdom.
Serena’s writing style is as captivating as a fictional novel. The reader is pulled into her stories and doesn’t realize the lesson embedded within. There were so many “aha” moment and relatable circumstances that everyone can find a gem within, making it completely worthwhile.
It is obvious that Serena follows in the gift of teaching as her father led the way. She has a bright future continuing in sharing wisdom with the world.
