Book Review: Is Dating a Battle of the Sexes when two know what they are getting into?

Love the One You’re With by Lauren Layne

The second in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series, Love the One You’re With is a story of overcoming heartache, jaded stereotypes and regaining self-confidence. It is a glimpse into what women and men go through on those first dates of a budding relationship.

The protagonist Grace Brighton is recently out of an engagement, freshly hurt from betrayal and trying to reinvent herself. Working for a woman’s magazine she is given an assignment with another writer for a men’s magazine. Jake Malone comes to the assignment with his own preconceptions that are misguided and equally as challenging.  They have to battle which gender has the better deal in the first few dates and then write from their individual perspectives.

This Rom/Com has it all with plenty of hilarious scenarios that showcase each gender’s weaknesses and strengths, even stereotypical as they are. It is a light, comedic approach reminiscent of the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but without the secrecy.  These two know full well what they are getting into. It is the one-upmanship that keeps this story rolling along as they come up with creative ways to out-do the other.

If you loved that movie, you’ll love this book!
